Adaptive performance is related to an individual’s adaptability to changes—be it in the organization and its goals, in the requirements of the job, or the overall work context. Given the rapid pace of technology and other factors that are constantly changing the nature of work and organizations, adaptive performance is becoming an increasingly important performance dimension.

Performance includes four types or dimensions: task, contextual, counterproductive, and adaptive. All four should be considered because they have separate and important effects on organizational success. Organizations that include all four dimensions are likely to be more successful.
