Shingles is a painful condition. It starts with a pain or burning on the skin then few days later, a rash with blisters appear like a band on one side of your body.
If you have it, see your doctor within the first 3 days in order to get the antiviral medicine to speed the recovery and prevent having the severe nerve pain.
Shingles and chickenpox are caused by the same virus. You can’t have shingles if you never had chickenpox before. But if you were in contact with someone with shingles, you might get chickenpox but not shingles, especially if you never had chickenpox as a child nor had the chickenpox vaccine. Normally, after you have chickenpox, the virus stays inactive in your body, then in the future when your immunity is weak. The virus gets activated and cause shingles. Finally, the
best way to prevent shingles is by getting the vaccine.
