DIY Whipped Lavender Body Butter - DIY Whipped Body Butter
For this classic recipe, we'll need 4 oz of Shea Butter, 1 oz of Apricot Oil, 1/2 oz Almond Oil, the oil of 3 capsules of Vitamin E, 30 drops of Lavender Essential Oil, 15 drops of Lemongrass Essential Oil, and a few dried out lavender flowers for decoration.
The concentration of fatty acids and vitamins that shea butter contains make it extremely nourishing and moisturizing for the skin. Apricot Oil is a rejuvenating oil that soothes irritated skin and restores a healthy glow. Almond oil is an all natural skin nourishing oil that is easily absorbed by the skin and it won't clog your pores, so this makes it ideal for the entire body. Aside from having a relaxing and calming scent, Lavender oil contains antioxidants that counteract the pollutants our skin is constantly exposed to. Lemongrass, on the other hand, acts as an astringent which helps to tighten the pores on the skin.
Using the double boiler method, you'll want to gently melt the Shea Butter. When the shea butter is almost completely melted but still on the heat, add the apricot oil, the almond oil, and the oil from the vitamin e capsules. We like to add vitamin e to most skin care recipes because vitamin e is a great skin healer, serves as an antioxidant, and helps the oils in the butters last longer.
So now you want to remove it from the heat and set aside your jar with the oil and let it cool until it reaches a temperature of about 90 degrees F. Now you want to add the essential oils with Lavender and Lemongrass. Now cover your preparation, and let it cool off for about 2 hours. When you see a trace when stirring the oil mixture, your preparation is ready for whipping. Use an electric mixer on high and whip for about 2-3 minutes. It will still be mainly liquid, and will form a slight foam layer on top, this is normal. Cover the whipped liquid preparation and place it in the fridge over night, or for 10 hours.
Now that the formula has solidified, take it out of the fridge, and you're ready to give it the final whip. Using your electric mixer on high, whip the formula and make sure you scrape the butters off of the sides of the container and mix them in well.
Now use a ziplock bag or a pastry bag and fill the bag with your lotion, and squeeze the center and put into your final container. Throw some lavender flowers on top, and that's it! You just made a professional, amazing body butter your skin will thank you for.
