in this lesson:
The reactants are not destroyed, nor new substances are created from nothing,
rather, the atoms of the elements of the reactants are rearranged to form new
products with the same number of atoms of each element,
thus fulfilling the law of conservation of matter.
Breaking the existing bonds between
the atoms of the reactant molecules
And it is an endothermic process
(Accompanied by the absorption of heat
energy from the surroundings).
Forming new bonds between the atoms of the product molecules
And it is an exothermic process
(Accompanied by the release of heat
! energy to the surroundings).
* Chemical bonds store energy, and the greater the bond energy, the harder it is to
break them.
* Usually the amounts of thermal energy absorbed and released in the processes
of breaking and forming bonds for the same reaction are not equal,
therefore chemical reactions are usually accompanied by thermal changes,
appearing as energy absorbed or energy released from or to the surroundings,
thus fulfilling the law of conservation of energy.
Exothermic reactions
i Reactions that result in the release of thermal energy as a product of the reaction i
i to the surroundings, causing its temperature to rise.
Endothermic reactions
! Reactions that require the absorption of thermal energy from the surroundings, !
! causing its temperature to decrease.
