in this Lesson:
Ecosystem: A community of living organisms interacting with each other and with the abiotic components to achieve adaptation to the changeable conditions.
Earth is characterized from the other planets in the solar system by the presence of the "hydrosphere" .
* Its definition: The hydrosphere refers to the water exists on the planet Earth.
* Water covers about 70 % of the Earth's surface which is distributed as follows:
Water cycle (Hydrologic cycle) : It is the continuous motion of water (present on the Earth's surface or near to it) from a place to another around the planet Earth, at a nearly closed system, through many different pathways where gets changed among its three states (solid, liquid and gaseous) within a range of known temperatures on the Earth.
Some Biological concepts related to the water cycle:
1. Transpiration:
* It is a process by which the plant gets rid of excess water in the form of vapor from its surface exposed to the air.
* Most of transpiration process in plant takes place through microscopic openings found on the surfaces of leaves and green stems which are called "Stomata".
The role of plant in performing the transpiration process as a part of the water cycle in nature:
Importance of transpiration process for plant:
Decreasing temperature of plant parts.
Creating a force that pulls water and salts up through the xylem tissue, leading to elevating water and salts from the root to the upper parts of the plant.
2. Excretion:
* It is the process by which living organisms eliminate waste products resulting from the metabolic processes.
* From the excretion products: Carbon dioxide, water vapor, and nitrogenous wastes (like ammonia, urea, and uric acid).
